My brother has a 1987 BMW that he has completely restored, including a freshly rebuild engine. But, when he want to fire it up he found that the ECU was shot.
He can not find another ECU, and the car has been sitting in his garage for over 10 years.
Will this work as the ECU? The engine has a crank-position sensor, and from what I can see that's all. I looked at the car 7 years ago (I used to be a mechanic) and told him to replace the position sensor. That was no help.
If I could find at least some information on how to do this, it would be great!

Hi mate, Yes sure Rabbit ECU work - that's what this ECU is built for. Aftermarket replacement of OEM ECU :-) Your brother's BMW probably has LE Jetronic or similar which is not an extensive system. If you can use the existing ECU for a donor header plug then it is easy to make a Plug and Play (PnP) harness. Those old Jetronic systems only had about 20 wires you would need to solder to create an easy plug in solution. Please take a look at the photos attached of how you can do this. More than happy to help if you want to send your ECU if you are not comfortable soldering. Do you know if your crank position pattern is a 60-1 magnetic - I suspect it would be for an old BMW. Besides that all the sensors are compatible. Possibly you might benefit by a throttle position sensor if you don't have one. Cheers, Matthew Attachments:
